SK Telecom validates 400G OpenZR+ IPoDWDM with IP Infusion

South Korea Telecom (SKT) faced the challenge of validating whether open, multi-vendor IP over DWDM (IPoDWDM) networking could deliver the required functionality, efficiency, and performance while interoperating with its existing traditional equipment. The carrier needed a live proof of concept to achieve both cost reduction and technical innovation, specifically testing if optics from multiple suppliers would perform over a long-distance span.

IP Infusion provided the solution with its OcNOS-SP-PLUS network operating system running on whitebox hardware. The successful live POC established technical feasibility, proving that optics, hardware, and software from different companies integrated seamlessly into one system under the control of SKT's SDN Orchestrator. This provided SKT with evidence of cost efficiency and multi-vendor interoperability, marking a significant step towards commercial deployment of open, disaggregated solutions.
