MTN Group lowers network costs for 280 million customers with IP Infusion

MTN Group, Africa's largest mobile network operator serving 280 million customers, faced challenges with traditional closed networking systems that limited hardware and software choices and drove up costs. To reduce capital expenditure and improve operational efficiency, MTN issued a Request for Proposal for its new Open and Disaggregated Networking category. IP Infusion's OcNOS SP network operating system was approved as a solution for access and aggregation roles.

IP Infusion provided its OcNOS SP software, which runs on standards-based hardware, enabling MTN to independently source hardware and software. This multi-vendor approach, delivered with integration partner NEC XON, gives MTN greater flexibility, reduces supply chain risk, and allows for faster service introduction across its 16 markets. The deployment is expected to lower costs and improve service delivery for its 280 million subscribers.
