Africell Sierra Leone builds a scalable IP/MPLS backbone for 4G and 5G with IP Infusion

Africell Sierra Leone, a mobile and technology operator, faced the challenge of backhauling rising 4G traffic and preparing for 5G while also serving FTTx subscribers. They needed a robust, scalable IP backbone capable of carrying both mobile and fixed services without the high cost and rigidity of traditional integrated routing platforms. To solve this, they partnered with vendor IP Infusion.

IP Infusion provided its OcNOS SP software running on Edgecore hardware to build a disaggregated IP/MPLS backbone. This solution gave Africell a single, scalable platform for all its traffic, providing the flexibility to add advanced services at a lower price point than traditional options. The new backbone supports current 4G demand, FTTx growth, and provides a path to future 5G deployment.
