A IOpipe Case Study
Matson, a leading U.S. carrier in the Pacific, was hindered in its adoption of serverless architecture because its existing monitoring solutions could not provide the necessary visibility. The company was unable to monitor its applications in real-time and found it unwieldy to address security concerns, particularly in sorting through thousands of malicious requests from nightly DDoS attacks. This lack of serverless observability using IOpipe's service put a business-critical mobile application project on hold.
By implementing IOpipe's real-time serverless monitoring solution, Matson gained the ability to trace every call its Lambda functions made to external APIs. This allowed engineers to instantly drill down to malicious requests and view the health of the system from multiple vantage points. As a result, Matson successfully launched its flagship mobile application, which paved the way for migrating existing workloads to serverless and established a serverless-first model for all new application development.
