How one of the world’s largest health care providers chose Ionic to boost worker engagement and agility

The National Health Service, through the Leicestershire Partnership Trust and Leicestershire Health Informatics Service, needed mobile apps to support its “Go Agile, Work on the Go” initiative. The challenge was to give health visitors and public sector staff better tools for scheduling, communication, directions, and workspace lookup, while also working in environments with limited or no connectivity. Ionic was chosen to help build these mobile applications using the team’s existing web technology skills.

Using Ionic, the NHS team built the Health Visitor Diary App and the LLR WiFi App with native-like interfaces, offline access, and integration with existing APIs and plugins. The solution enabled staff to find patients, view appointments and case notes, call or text patients, and navigate to nearby WiFi workspaces without leaving the app. Ionic also sped up development and deployment, with the team reportedly getting up and running in two days instead of weeks of native training, improving flexibility, productivity, and field efficiency.
