A Inuvika Case Study
The University of Exeter needed a cost-effective, secure way to deliver research applications (RStudio, Matlab, MEGAN, etc.) to users running long, resource‑intensive workloads after Dell discontinued vWorkspace. Seeking to avoid full virtual desktops and extend the life of existing workstations and servers for environmental and budget reasons, the University of Exeter selected Inuvika’s OVD Enterprise to provide a device‑independent, low‑cost virtual research workspace.
Inuvika implemented OVD Enterprise (with the Inuvika Enterprise Desktop Client and Secure Gateway), consolidating CentOS and Ubuntu servers, publishing Linux and Windows apps as thin‑client sessions, and using session management for load‑balancing and QoS. The Inuvika solution improved utilization of underused compute, reduced support overhead, extended desktop/server replacement cycles, and delivered measurable cost savings versus competing platforms while keeping data and long‑running computations secure in the data center.
