Genomics England secures 100,000 Genomes Project with Inuvika

Genomics England, a company owned by the UK Department of Health, faced the challenge of providing researchers and clinicians with secure access to its 100,000 Genomes Project data. They needed a solution that would keep all sensitive genomic data completely contained within their own data centers to prevent any unauthorized export, while still allowing approved users to work with the information. They selected Inuvika and its OVD Enterprise platform to deliver this secure virtualized application and desktop environment.

The solution implemented by Inuvika used its OVD platform to create a secure "Reading Room" environment accessed via an HTML5 client. This ensured no data was ever transferred or stored on the remote user's device, with all processing kept securely within the data center. The policy-based access controls disabled local storage and cut-and-paste functions, effectively creating the required 'airlock' for data. This allowed Genomics England to meet its strict security obligations while providing simple, secure access for its users without the need to install any client-side software.
