Abilene Christian University Moves Student Health and Counseling Services to the Cloud with Inuvika

Abilene Christian University (ACU), a private higher-education institution, needed to keep its student Medical and Counseling EMR available after migrating staff desktops to Apple macOS. The EMR required a Windows native client hosted on a Microsoft Windows Server, and the university’s interim VMware Horizon delivery introduced periodic instability — counseling staff reported three to four application crashes per day, disrupting roughly 45 daily appointments. ACU engaged Inuvika and evaluated OVD Enterprise to address the lack of a native Mac client and the reliability issues.

ACU’s Inuvika reseller ran an OVD Enterprise proof of concept and the university moved to full production using Inuvika’s OVD Enterprise, the Inuvika Enterprise Desktop Client for macOS in App Mode, and Inuvika’s Enterprise Secure Gateway (ESG). The deployment eliminated the crashes (staff reported working entire shifts “without a single outage”), preserves active sessions on disconnect, improved security by keeping patient data in ACU’s private datacenter, and reduced cost of ownership compared with Horizon and Azure alternatives (Horizon was about 50% more per user; Azure cost was significantly higher).
