City of Columbus modernizes 911 response for 907,000 residents with Intrado

The City of Columbus, Ohio, faced a challenge in modernizing its emergency communications to better serve its nearly 907,000 diverse residents. The city's Emergency Communications Center needed to eliminate critical communication barriers for callers who were disoriented, nonverbal, or non-English speakers. To address this, the city partnered with its long-time vendor, Intrado, to implement Video-to-911 and Text-to-911 Translation technologies.

Intrado's solution enabled dispatchers to securely receive live video from a caller's phone with consent and to conduct real-time, translated text conversations. This allowed for improved situational awareness and seamless communication with non-English speakers. The implementation by Intrado led to improved call accuracy, faster response times, and increased public trust. The City of Columbus has become a regional leader by sharing its insights and continues to work with Intrado on next-generation safety technology.
