CAL FIRE, the third-largest fire department in North America responsible for protecting over 31 million acres and responding to more than 5,600 wildland fires a year, struggled with fragmented scheduling and slow overtime fills using spreadsheets and a competing system. To gain oversight and speed up staffing, CAL FIRE turned to InTime’s scheduling and overtime management platform, including its auto-fill and mobile notification features.
InTime consolidated multiple spreadsheets into one automated system, filtered sign-ups by collective-agreement rules, and enabled autofill and mobile notifications to staff. The result: a 98% reduction in time spent managing overtime and an 81% reduction in scheduling time, with daily scheduling cut to about 10 minutes and overtime work reduced to under 30 minutes per week; InTime even filled 400 days of overtime almost instantly and once filled 50 days in two hours versus three weeks previously.
