Spreadshirt - Customer Case Study

Spreadshirt GmbH, a micro-merchandising service specializing in online marketing, engaged Intetics to improve its printing technology and speed up production while minimizing material waste. Spreadshirt’s challenges included developing auto-nesting for SVG and pixel images, automatically detecting unprocessable artworks, measuring complexity to estimate processing time, and simplifying inputs — all implemented using only open source tools.

Intetics built two applications: an auto-nesting engine that tightly packs irregular shapes to reduce cut waste and an image-processing suite that classifies, simplifies and makes uploaded designs plotter-ready, coordinated by a central control component. Intetics also supplied an Offshore Dedicated Team (ODT) to work with Spreadshirt’s in-house staff; the result was about a 500× speedup in image processing, reduced unused print area, faster printing, and measurable output and profit growth while retaining institutional knowledge through the ODT.
