Things Remembered - Customer Case Study

Things Remembered, a retailer known for personalized gifts and custom engraving, needed a faster, more scalable way to analyze its growing data environment. After evaluating several options, the company chose Vertica for its performance and total cost of ownership, then turned to InterWorks for help with implementation, performance tuning, and migrating legacy Informix procedures and ETL processes to Vertica.

InterWorks overhauled the Vertica environment by tuning database settings, optimizing projections and system configuration, and setting up backups and the Vertica Management Console. The team also built custom Python replacements for Informix procedures, ETL, backup, and monitoring scripts. As a result, Things Remembered saw immediate performance and scalability improvements, completed a seamless migration of large data volumes into Vertica, and gained the ability to detect and resolve issues such as disk space problems or node failures within minutes.
