The Australian Football League builds contact tracing in under an hour with InterWorks

The Australian Football League (AFL) faced the challenge of modernizing its analytics and, later, the urgent need to develop a secure and automated contact tracing solution to safely resume live events during the COVID-19 pandemic. They partnered with vendor InterWorks for data engineering, architecture, and Tableau consulting services to achieve these goals.

InterWorks implemented a solution using Snowflake's cloud data platform and Matillion to combine over 26 disparate data sources into a single, consumable format. This enabled the AFL to provide health authorities with detailed contact tracing reports in under an hour. The successful solution was critical in getting government approval to restart the season, safely bringing fans and revenue back to the sport.
