WS trends builds smart energy management system on InterSystems’ technology

WS trends, a Czech software developer, faced the challenge of integrating unpredictable renewable energy into distribution grids while helping large consumers avoid costly usage penalties. They needed a scalable, real-time system to monitor hundreds of thousands of smart meters, stabilize fluctuating supply, and give minute-by-minute, appliance-level control and alerts.

WS trends built the Smart Grids Management System (SGMS) on InterSystems Caché, Ensemble, and DeepSee to ingest and analyze high-volume meter data in real time, integrate billing and IT systems, and provide AI-driven alerts. SGMS automates demand control (e.g., switching appliances to absorb excess power), delivers real-time dashboards and advanced financial analysis, and can process data from up to a million meters on a single server. The solution was deployed for LUMEN Distribution Network in Prague (3 months initial development, 12 months full rollout) and has enabled green energy “islands” and growing customer adoption.
