TrakCare Brings Electronic Patient Record to Residents in the Mountains of Italy

The Health Authority of Valle d’Aosta serves about 118,000 residents across 74 mountain towns, operating two hospitals and a clinic from a region where steep terrain and long travel times make access to care difficult. Fragmented legacy systems and hard-to-reach patients led to scheduling problems, missed appointments, and limited information flow between local general practitioners and hospital specialists.

The Authority deployed the web-based InterSystems TrakCare platform, using its built-in Ensemble integration to connect legacy systems into a single Electronic Patient Record and shared Caché database without a “rip-and-replace” overhaul. The rollout improved registration, scheduling and discharge workflows, made test results and clinical histories instantly available across the region, reduced no-shows by enabling better appointment choices, and empowered local GPs with up-to-date patient information to coordinate care more effectively.
