Roche Diagnostics France, the French arm of the Roche Group and a leader in in‑vitro diagnostics, was confronting an evolving laboratory landscape: consolidation of labs, stricter regulatory and financial constraints, and the need to industrialize automated sample processing while ensuring traceability, data security and 24/7 availability. Laboratories also needed interoperability between robotic analyzers and laboratory information systems and finer activity metrics to support new “per-test” billing models.

Roche developed MPL evo2 middleware on InterSystems Caché and DeepSee to centralize production management—covering sample routing, technical validation, traceability, multi‑site/multi‑LIS connectivity and real‑time BI dashboards—and used Caché’s Zen for richer web interfaces. The solution delivered a robust, high‑performance, compliance‑ready platform that enabled on‑demand billing and deeper operational insights, strengthened Roche’s leadership in the French middleware market, and paved the way for RFID, cloud and mobile extensions.
