A InterSystems Case Study
Press Computer Systems (PCS), an independent unit of the UK-based Claverley Group, was tasked in 2007 with reinventing news publishing to combat shrinking readership and ad revenues. The company needed a single platform to decouple content from format, consolidate pagination, wire, picture desk and archive systems, enable “work from anywhere” mobility, and provide intelligent, multi‑media workflows for faster, richer publication.
PCS built “PCS Knowledge” in about 12 months using InterSystems Caché (high‑performance object database) and Ensemble (integration and orchestration). By storing story elements as object packages and using semantic analysis (iKnow) plus Ensemble for messaging and workflow, PCS consolidated multiple systems, reduced costs, enabled browser‑based work anywhere, and made content dynamically reusable—giving customers faster publishing, better reuse of assets, and a clear competitive advantage.
