Queensland’s Mater Health Services Enhances the Value of its Electronic Patient Record with InterSystems HealthShare

Mater Health Services is a Queensland hospital network of seven hospitals with 7,500 staff that cares for about 500,000 people a year. Facing the challenge of increasing the value of its single electronic patient record while linking more than 20 clinical and patient administration systems, Mater needed to integrate disparate applications, avoid clinician disruption, and fill functional gaps without replacing existing systems.

Mater deployed InterSystems HealthShare as a central informatics platform to create the Mater Clinical Data Repository (MCDR), provide HL7 translation and single interfaces, and rapidly build 15+ composite applications. The work gave clinicians faster, consolidated access to records, cut time spent moving paper charts, improved efficiencies (for example, doubled eye tissue donations), supported an electronic obstetric record and national integrations, and produced a unified repository covering 1.4 million patients, 10 million pathology results and 12.5 million events with new analytics and research opportunities.
