A InterSystems Case Study
Medical Faculty Associates (MFA) of George Washington University is a large ambulatory practice serving more than 1,500 patients per day with 275 physicians, 130+ residents, and 700 support staff. After deploying an EMR in 2004, MFA faced a new challenge: monthly financial and operational reports arrived too late to influence day-to-day decisions, leaving physicians burdened by paperwork and unable to manage time and budgets proactively.
Using InterSystems Ensemble, MFA built a browser-based physician portal that pulls live data from nine sources (including Excel, Caché, Oracle, and SQL Server) and went from development to rollout in just over 30 days (trial of 25 users, then full deployment). The portal gives physicians and administrators real-time KPIs and drill-down details to adjust schedules and workflows; since rollout all departments have met monthly budgets, charges increased $466,000 for the most recent month year-over-year and $1.4 million for the most recent two months, and staff and patients report improved satisfaction.
