Partners HealthCare uses InterSystems Ensemble to integrate internal and external EMRs

Partners HealthCare System, a Boston-based integrated network that includes Massachusetts General and Brigham and Women’s hospitals, needed to bring community physician practices onto its enterprise EMR so clinicians could access a unified record and Partners’ 3+ TB clinical data repository. The challenge was quickly building and maintaining interfaces to many different practice management and lab systems, ensuring reliable HL7 message handling, patient matching, and fast onboarding without disrupting busy clinical operations.

Partners implemented InterSystems Ensemble as a central integration hub to accept, validate, transform and route HL7 ADT, SCH and LAB messages to the EMR, master patient index and CDR. Using Ensemble’s visual BPL and data-transformation tools, teams rapidly developed and subclassed interfaces and let analysts apply live changes via a browser. The result: more than 320 community physicians online, tens of thousands of messages per day, no unplanned downtime since rollout, faster onboarding and greater agility in meeting EMR adoption goals.
