MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company), the world’s second-largest shipping line, moves more than 12 million containers annually through some 270 ports and must process and validate over 300,000 transactions a day. Faced with huge, fast-changing data volumes across a complex supply chain—and with customers demanding real-time tracking via a web-based Tracking and Tracing tool—MSC found its existing relational database could not meet the performance, validation, and real-time availability requirements.

MSC implemented InterSystems Ensemble with the embedded Caché database, EDI engine and DeepSee analytics, completing development and deployment in six months. The platform enabled real-time processing, automated workflows, rapid error detection and correction, email/RSS alerts and integrated dashboards for local agencies; as a result customers can track shipments live, agencies access up‑to‑the‑minute reports, and data quality and responsiveness across MSC’s global network have significantly improved.
