Navantia Develops Next Wave of Ship Management Systems Using InterSystems Cache

Navantia, a leading Spanish military shipbuilder, needed a next-generation Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) to manage modern ships as complex, distributed information systems. Traditional relational databases and SCADA solutions proved too simplistic, inflexible and slow for an IPMS that must integrate sensors, PLCs, real-time and historical data, system relationships and diverse workflows across multiple platforms and redundant networks.

Navantia and partner Arisnova built COMPLEX on InterSystems Caché to meet those needs: a multi-platform, distributed real-time system that integrates control, damage control, maintenance, training and design data, and delivers 2D/3D/data-explorer views for operators. Caché’s replication, high-speed access and storage let COMPLEX support 65,000 signals, scale linearly, reduce development hours by ~80%, win contracts with several navies, and pave the way for big-data maintenance analytics and simulated training.
