A InterSystems Case Study
MIT Medical, the health service for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology community—about 30,000 people with roughly 130,000 outpatient visits a year and 90 clinicians—faced a reporting problem: clinical and operational data lived in many disparate applications and databases, and analysts had been producing only retrospective, manually assembled reports in Access and Excel. As demand grew for timely, actionable management information, MIT Medical evaluated solutions and selected the InterSystems Ensemble rapid integration platform after a successful proof-of-concept.
Using Ensemble, MIT Medical built web-based dashboards that consolidate live data from multiple sources, apply business rules, and provide drill-down detail and real-time alerts via business activity monitoring. The integration eliminated the overhead of a data warehouse, made data trustworthy and accessible to authorized users, and enabled faster, better-informed decisions about productivity, costs, and clinical quality—such as monitoring diabetic care and meeting wellness standards.
