Case Study: Medipal Holdings Co., Ltd. achieves six‑sigma logistics accuracy and high-performance scalability with InterSystems Caché

A InterSystems Case Study

Preview of the Medipal Holdings Co., Ltd. Case Study

Medipal Uses Cache for Breakthrough Logistics

Medipal Holdings Co., Ltd., formed when Japan’s largest commodity wholesaler Paltac merged with the Medico Group, needed to modernize and consolidate disparate IT systems after the merger. Handling up to 90,000 different items monthly and serving customers from small pharmacies to large hospitals, the company sought to eliminate manual errors, improve throughput and cost-efficiency, and achieve Six Sigma–level logistics quality while ensuring secure, accurate deliveries.

Medipal adopted Paltac’s Caché‑based SAMS logistics platform as the core database technology, renewing its information and sales‑support systems and building a new automated medicine logistics center. The first deployment went live in Kanagawa in August 2009 (with Osaka and nationwide rollouts planned), delivering higher performance, lower resource use, scalability and reliability—achieving dramatic improvements in shipping accuracy, productivity, cost‑effectiveness and customer service.
