A InterSystems Case Study
Hong Kong Baptist Hospital (HKBH), a 800+-bed private hospital in Kowloon founded in 1963, selected InterSystems TrakCare in 2009 to convert paper records to a patient-centric, paperless Clinical Enterprise System (CES) aligned with Hong Kong’s eHR initiative. Initial deployment was nurse- and administration-driven (with 97% of doctors as affiliates), producing siloed configurations that were not optimized for clinicians, required duplicate paperwork, limited remote access and discouraged physician adoption.
To drive clinical adoption, HKBH and InterSystems launched a Clinical Adoption Program led by Dr. Alex Yu and a multidisciplinary working group that reviewed and revised configurations, conducted workflow walk-throughs and hands-on training, and broadened clinician functionality. The phased go-live (starting with Renal, then Obstetrics/Gynecology and Pediatrics) delivered strong clinician and nurse feedback, increased EMR use, faster diagnosis and treatment, improved patient safety and satisfaction, momentum toward paperless operations, and formal recognition of InterSystems’ support.
