Hunterdon Healthcare is a multi-site health system in New Jersey (26 locations, a 178‑bed medical center and more than 2,000 staff) focused on high-quality, safe continuity of care. It faced a common challenge: information gaps between hospital and community physicians caused by disparate clinical systems, leaving outpatient and inpatient teams without shared access to lab results and orders.
Hunterdon implemented InterSystems Ensemble to connect its QuadraMed Affinity HIS and lab system with affiliated groups’ NextGen EHR and practice management systems, enabling lab orders from NextGen, results viewing in providers’ EMRs, and automated admission notifications to PCPs. The phased rollout closed the “circle of care,” reduced redundant testing, improved clinician and patient communication and satisfaction, and yielded operational benefits such as overtime-management reporting and measurable workflow efficiencies.
