Healthfirst boosts care gap compliance by 6% with InterSystems

Healthfirst, a not-for-profit health plan, faced the challenge of tracking quality performance through state and federal programs like HEDIS and Medicare STARS. Their reliance on claims data, which had a significant lag, made it difficult to coordinate timely care for members. To address this, they worked with InterSystems to implement a private health information exchange (HIE) using HealthShare Unified Care Record, Patient Index, and Health Insight.

The InterSystems solution provided timely access to normalized clinical data from roughly 700 provider facilities. This enabled Healthfirst to proactively identify care gaps and send targeted notifications to providers, which significantly improved adherence to time-sensitive quality measures. For specific measures, this approach resulted in a 5-6% increase in compliance, allowing Healthfirst to improve member outcomes and distinguish itself as a collaborative partner in care.
