Federal District Government of Brasilia Projects Savings of R$100 Million per Year with TrakCare

The Federal District Government of Brasilia (GDF) is modernizing healthcare for more than 2.5 million citizens across 17 hospitals (4,400 beds), 61 health centers and supporting facilities by replacing paper-based processes with an integrated electronic patient record. Facing high manual-workload, lost tests and medicine waste, GDF chose InterSystems TrakCare for its proven, modular and scalable platform and distributed smart cards holding unique IDs and patient data to improve access and administration.

GDF implemented TrakCare LAB, Clinicals, Patient Administration and Pharmacy modules plus the citizen smart card, yielding rapid gains: R$1 million/month additional revenue from TrakCare bed management (projected R$12M/year with limited current coverage and a planned doubling of bed throughput), at least R$18M/year saved by eliminating lost/duplicate lab tests via a web portal, ~70% savings on injectable drugs and 75% on tablets through single-dose control, and roughly R$60M/year saved on drug purchasing—bringing total projected annual savings to R$100 million while increasing productivity, lowering operating costs and reducing wait times.
