Fast Storage and Processing of Mass Data

BTC AG, an international IT consulting firm with over 1,600 employees, developed BTC AMM, an advanced meter management solution for the energy sector. Facing EU- and national-driven smart‑meter rollouts that generate massive time-series data (e.g., quarter‑hour readings producing hundreds of thousands of records hourly), BTC needed a database that could continuously store, sort and process large numbers of time series—including the ability to read ~1,000 series per minute and aggregate data every 15 minutes.

BTC tested and adopted InterSystems Caché as the basis for BTC AMM. Caché proved easy to install and well supported, and stress tests processed 100,000 time series at 12,000 processes per second; it outperformed tested relational databases by about twofold. Based on these results, BTC implemented Caché to meet the performance and scalability demands of its meter‑management solution.
