East & North Hertfordshire NHS Trust takes complete control of interfacing with InterSystems Ensemble

East & North Hertfordshire NHS Trust was hampered by slow, bespoke point-to-point interfaces from its CLINiCOM PAS, and a mandated move to a centrally hosted PAS that used HL7 messaging left legacy departmental systems unable to communicate. Faced with the expense and risk of asking six suppliers to build HL7 interfaces, the Trust needed a central, controllable way to translate and manage messages.

The Trust chose InterSystems Ensemble as its integration engine, replicated and switched interfaces in two phases over seven months, and adopted InterSystems Caché for a new data warehouse fed daily by Ensemble. The project delivered seamless cutovers with no issues, faster development and testing, a real‑time interface dashboard, reduced supplier costs, improved BI and a self-sufficient team now proactively supporting clinicians.
