Chilean Health Providers and Patients Benefit From Better, More Coordinated Care

InterSystems partnered with the Chile Ministry of Health to support a nationwide transformation from hospital‑centric care to a networked, primary‑care focused system. Facing an aging population, rising chronic disease, and the need to control costs while improving preventive and coordinated care, Chile required a flexible, standards‑based health IT platform to unify records, streamline referrals, and enable national reporting and management.

The government deployed InterSystems TrakCare (a cloud‑hosted unified EMR) and HealthShare (a health information exchange) across more than 60 hospitals and 200 primary care sites, providing a shared data repository, referral routing, patient portals and real‑time dashboards. The implementation cut duplicated tests and lab orders, sped reporting and referrals, reduced no‑shows (to 5% in Talcahuano), improved cross‑region coordination and waiting‑list management, and enabled early identification of at‑risk patients—delivering better care, lower costs and stronger systemwide planning.
