International Training Institute (ITI), the training organization for the sheet metal and HVAC trades, needed a better way to recruit younger apprentices and deliver consistent hands-on learning across more than 140 training centers. Traditional instructor-led courses were limited by time, staff, and the lack of training labs at smaller facilities, making it difficult to assess apprentice skill levels and place new learners appropriately. ITI turned to Interplay Learning and its SkillMill™ VR and simulation training platform.

Interplay Learning implemented virtual HVAC training through SkillMill™ and the Command Center to give apprentices realistic, hands-on practice online while helping instructors direct learning paths, track progress, and manage content. The result was broader access to training at JATCs nationwide, stronger appeal to digital-first recruits, and a more measurable standard for job readiness. ITI also expanded training to 90% of JATCs offering HVAC service and gained competency data to help recruiters and organizers move qualified techs into the field faster.
