Greenville Hospital System - Customer Case Study

Greenville Hospital System, a non-profit academic health organization in Greenville, SC, needed to move beyond disaster recovery after a 2011 data center power outage exposed weaknesses in its backup systems. With growing reliance on EMR and the need for 24x7 access to lab, pharmacy, and other services across remote sites, the hospital turned to Internetwork Engineering for a more robust business continuity solution.

Internetwork Engineering recommended Cisco Overlay Transport Virtualization (OTV) to connect Greenville Hospital System’s two data centers and create a true high-availability environment. The result was a major reduction in downtime: most VLANs came back immediately, most outages were under 30 seconds, and the longest outage tested was only 90 seconds, while Internet connectivity and critical server/application VLANs also became fully redundant.
