The Pharmaceutical Laboratory Kern Pharma Builds a Clad-rack Warehouse That Combines Stacker Cranes for Boxes and for Pallets

Kern Pharma, a pharmaceutical laboratory in Spain and part of Grupo Indukern, needed to expand its Barcelona logistics center to support record growth, improve supply for its hospital and pharmacy customers, and manage both palletized goods and box-based products with different turnover rates. The company partnered with Interlake Mecalux to find a high-capacity, automated storage solution suited to its fast-growing operations.

Interlake Mecalux built a rack-supported automated warehouse in Terrassa with an AS/RS for pallets and a miniload system for boxes, all controlled by Mecalux Galileo software connected to Kern Pharma’s ERP and WMS. The installation added capacity for 10,080 pallets and 9,792 boxes, streamlined inbound and outbound flows with AGVs and stacker cranes, and improved productivity, agility, and logistics efficiency with minimal manual intervention.
