A Interlake Mecalux Case Study
Katoen Natie, a global 3PL provider, opened a new warehouse in Italy to support a major sweets-industry customer storing vacuum-packed hazelnuts in big-bags on pallets. The challenge was to maximize storage while ensuring strict stock control and protecting the facility and goods in a seismically active region. Interlake Mecalux supplied pallet racks and a semi-automatic Pallet Shuttle system for the project.
Interlake Mecalux designed an earthquake-resistant clad-rack warehouse with four chambers, using reinforced racks built to comply with Italian and European anti-seismic standards. The solution delivered 7,765-pallet capacity, including 6,850 pallets in the Pallet Shuttle system and 915 in pallet racking, while speeding up handling, reducing forklift traffic in the lanes, and enabling visual checks of vacuum-packed goods via a shuttle-mounted camera. Katoen Natie also reported fast installation and on-time delivery.
