Mecalux Drive-in Racks Have Demonstrated Their Earthquake Proofing in the Plant That the Frozen Fruits and Vegetables Producer Alifrut Has in Quilicura (Santiago De Chile)

Alifrut, a Chilean frozen fruit and vegetable producer, needed a high-density storage solution for its frozen chamber that could also withstand the country’s strong seismic activity. Interlake Mecalux supplied four blocks of drive-in pallet racks for the Quilicura plant, designed for cold storage use and engineered to meet Chile’s strict anti-seismic requirements.

Interlake Mecalux implemented reinforced drive-in racks with braced frames, guide rails, and seismic calculations based on a 3D SAP2000 model and NCh 2369 standards. The system successfully survived an 8.3 magnitude earthquake in 2015 with no goods falling and no need for repairs or reinforcement, while providing storage capacity for 2,984 pallets at -4 °F.
