Interlake Mecalux Pallet Shuttle System Maximizes Storage Capacity of Islandaire’s Distribution Center

Islandaire, a fast-growing specialty air conditioning and heating manufacturer in East Setauket, New York, needed a way to modernize and maximize storage in its new 40,000-square-foot distribution center. With millions of pounds of steel and a large volume of inventory on hand, the company worked with Interlake Mecalux to find a high-density storage solution that could fit its custom pallet needs and avoid taking up valuable aisle space.

Interlake Mecalux implemented a semiautomatic Pallet Shuttle system to create very dense storage while improving safety and handling efficiency. The solution stores pallets 12 deep across 20 lanes and 3 levels, providing 720 pallet positions in 5,000 square feet, and lets Islandaire move units directly from containers onto the racks with less damage and less forklift traffic inside the rack structure.
