A Interact Software Case Study

Interact helps MMU to distribute updates and news, give access to policies and procedures, and build collaboration between users

Manchester Metropolitan University (Manchester Met), a UK public university with over 38,000 students and roughly 5,000 staff, faced a failing WordPress-based staff channel that mixed student and staff content and made news, policies and a usable people directory hard to find. To address requirements from an internal survey — better access to news, improved findability of policies and an enhanced staff directory — Manchester Met selected Interact to deliver a dedicated intranet (the Interact intranet) tailored to staff needs.

Interact implemented a user-focused intranet with a reworked information architecture, centralized calendar, enhanced People Directory, Timeline newsfeed, communities and recognition features. The new Interact intranet delivered measurable impact: 97% active users, over 1,500 staff booked onto Vice‑Chancellor briefings, ~400 sign-ups in the first 15 minutes for Engage Week (around 2,000 calendar spots booked in total), centralized HR content removed from the public site, and improved staff access to toolkits credited with the university’s highest-ever student survey uptake.
