Affordable Living Gets Luxury Hot Water
MLK Plaza South Bronx is a new 13-story, 160-unit affordable residential building in eastern Mott Haven, Bronx, facing the challenge of fitting domestic hot water equipment into limited boiler-room space while avoiding the cost and risk of large storage tanks. Vendor Intellihot Inc. provided tankless hot water heating for the project, with plans originally calling for two 1,500 boilers and 435 gallons of storage.
Intellihot Inc. replaced that concept with three iQ751 tankless units, delivering 2,250,000 BTU/hr with zero storage and a much smaller footprint. The system also added energy savings through Enovative AutoHot pump recirculation and remote monitoring for gas and water leaks, while reducing legionella risk and eliminating storage-related waste and maintenance concerns.
