River Island, a UK fashion retailer with almost 300 stores and a fast-moving in-house design team, had never used product-level advertising and needed to improve product visibility and conversions online. In May 2014 River Island engaged Intelligent Reach to launch on Google Shopping, providing a highly optimised product feed, access to the IR platform and ongoing feed management and optimisation across key markets.
Intelligent Reach implemented optimised Google Shopping feeds, item-level bidding and daily bid adjustments, plus campaign management for peak trading periods. The impact was significant: over the first six months conversions +16%/month, revenue +49%/month, clicks +35%/month, orders +42%/month and ROAS +7%/month; during Cyber Weekend Intelligent Reach drove Black Friday orders +305% and revenue +285% (CoS -31%), Sofa Sunday revenue +124% (70% of conversions on mobile) and Cyber Monday orders +318% and revenue +285%, prompting River Island to increase investment in Google Shopping.
