Canadian gold producer Agnico Eagle cuts accident frequency rate in half with help from Intelex EHS Software

Agnico Eagle Mines, a Canadian-based gold producer with nine mines and about 5,500 employees across Canada, Finland and Mexico, faced inefficient EHS processes built on Excel spreadsheets. The company needed a centralized, multi-language EHS management system to consolidate training, incidents, inspections and real-time reporting so corporate and site teams could act quickly to reduce accidents.

Agnico Eagle implemented Intelex beginning in 2011, rolling the system out to all sites within five months and continuously expanding its use across new divisions. Using configurable forms, a self-built risk assessment tool and six real-time dashboards, the company centralized 13,015 recorded incidents and 4,177 corrective actions and streamlined investigations and reporting. As a result, the accidental frequency rate fell from 3.23 to 1.48 (per 200,000 working hours) between 2011 and 2014, while multilingual communication and decision-making improved across the organization.
