A Intelerad Case Study
Ballarat Health Services, a 650‑bed teaching hospital serving a population of 230,000 in regional Victoria, faced limitations with a legacy PACS deployed in the late 1990s that was no longer meeting the needs of its high outpatient load (about 50% of volume, roughly 60,000 studies per year). To avoid an immediate full systems replacement while restoring timely distribution of images and reports to referrers, Ballarat turned to Intelerad and its interoperability/viewing solutions.
Intelerad deployed InteleWeb as a remote‑viewing front end (with radiologists using InteleViewer) to integrate with the legacy PACS, providing seamless digital access, eliminating film/CD workflows, improving turnaround times and serving as a backup if the legacy PACS went down. When ready, Ballarat migrated to Intelerad’s IntelePACS for a scalable, redundant diagnostic workflow; radiologists reported faster reads and broad adoption of InteleViewer in private practices, and IT gained a more reliable, supported imaging platform.
