VCU Health, an 865‑bed academic medical center and the region’s only Level 1 trauma center, struggled with rapidly growing volumes of incoming clinical images—many arriving on CDs (39,000 CDs processed in 2017)—which created delays, reimaging, and heavy administrative burden, especially for urgent stroke and trauma cases.
