FreeState Direct Expands Telehealth to Rural Communities

FreeState Direct, a physician-founded telemedicine provider serving 15 rural facilities across three states, struggled with expensive, outdated hardware and a fragmented mix of imaging systems and non‑integrated EHRs. Faced with 17 different platforms and more than $60,000 per year in error‑prone costs, FreeState partnered with Intelerad to adopt the Ambra Suite cloud imaging solution.

Intelerad implemented Ambra’s cloud delivery and integration tools—deploying 14+ image gateways, enabling mobile viewing, and embedding contextual imaging links into EHR/RIS systems—while developing a patient-facing portal. The move consolidated 17 systems down to a single Ambra solution, removed costly physical hardware in favor of a predictable monthly fee, improved interoperability and access, and streamlined telehealth workflows for rural providers and patients.
