Case Study: Boston Medical Center achieves complete imaging histories and faster patient care with Intelerad

A Intelerad Case Study

Ensuring Complete Imaging Histories are Available Throughout the Patient Journey

Boston Medical Center, a 496‑bed safety‑net hospital and the busiest trauma provider in New England, needed a faster, more reliable way for clinicians to access imaging exams performed outside its network. Critical care teams were hampered by CDs from satellite facilities, outpatient specialists lacked consistent access to imaging histories, and the hospital was forced into repeat imaging that could reduce reimbursement. To address this, Intelerad was engaged to provide an image‑sharing solution that would make outside exams available across the patient journey.

Intelerad implemented an image-exchange platform to ingest CDs, receive electronic exams from referring facilities, and integrate studies into the PACS. As a result, Boston Medical Center uploaded 13,684 outside exams in 2014, enabling earlier receipt of trauma imaging, broad adoption across image‑intensive specialties, fewer repeat studies, improved clinic throughput, enhanced patient safety, and new revenue from reimbursed secondary reads.
