CT Ortho Moves to Cloud to Provide Ubiquitous Imaging Availability

Connecticut Orthopaedic Specialists (CT Ortho), a 21-location orthopaedic group with 48 physicians and 550 staff managing roughly 90,000 studies per year and projecting a million studies (>10 TB) by 2020, faced growing challenges sharing imaging across sites and with referring physicians and needed a vendor to manage secure, highly available archives. To meet those goals they adopted Intelerad’s Ambra cloud imaging platform as a SaaS solution for centralized access, storage, and image sharing.

Intelerad implemented Ambra as CT Ortho’s primary archive and cloud sharing system, consolidating multiple imaging systems, enabling live links for external referrals, modality worklists, automated retention rules, and a simplified patient appointment list. As a result, CT Ortho can retrieve images from the cloud in about 30 seconds, has streamlined external sharing (phasing out CDs), secured scalable archiving for future growth, and improved operational and clinical efficiency.
