Canterbury District Health Board, a large teaching hospital system in Christchurch, New Zealand serving about 450,000 people and interpreting roughly 365,000 medical images a year, needed a more efficient, PACS-centered radiology workflow to improve productivity, report turnaround and patient safety across its 14 hospitals and community sites. To solve challenges around rapid access to priors, resident interruptions, and high ultrasound volumes, CDHB selected Intelerad’s platform, including IntelePACS and InteleViewer, plus integrated modules such as Digital Worksheets.

Intelerad implemented a PACS-driven workflow with a unified IntelePACS/InteleViewer worklist, Nuance PowerScribe 360 integration for smooth context switching, Digital Worksheets for ultrasound reporting, and Blackford Analysis auto-registration for priors comparison. The solution made the viewer the radiologists’ primary workspace, improved patient-safety by enabling seamless exam switching, and delivered measurable productivity gains—Intelerad’s Digital Worksheets halved dictation times for CDHB’s ~15,000 annual ultrasounds and significantly sped up reporting and comparisons to prior studies.
