A Integrated Environmental Solutions Case Study
Van Boerum & Frank Associates (VBFA), consulting engineers on Odyssey Elementary School in Woods Cross, Utah, needed to deliver a Net-Zero design for a new elementary school while also targeting LEED Gold certification. To meet those goals, they required a way to accurately model a highly complex HVAC and energy strategy. VBFA used Integrated Environmental Solutions’ IESVE for Engineers to validate the design and support their performance analysis.
Integrated Environmental Solutions’ IESVE enabled VBFA to model and fine-tune a system combining a ground-coupled heat pump, demand shaving boiler, indirect and direct evaporative cooling, variable flow air handlers, energy recovery, and thermal displacement air distribution. VBFA also used the software for daylighting analysis to optimize LED lighting, daylight dimming controls, and vacancy sensors. The result was the 84,000 sq. ft. Odyssey Elementary School, the first Net Zero electrical school building in Utah, which achieved LEED Gold certification.
