University of Glasgow advances 2030 net-zero campus goals with Integrated Environmental Solutions

The University of Glasgow faced the challenge of meeting its 2030 net-zero target for a campus undergoing major redevelopment, which included both new constructions and older, energy-intensive existing buildings. To address this, the university partnered with Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) to create a comprehensive Digital Twin using the IES Intelligent Communities Lifecycle (ICL) platform, which would help manage energy across the entire estate.

Integrated Environmental Solutions implemented a solution that began with a campus-level digital twin and a model of the district heating network. This was followed by the creation of three detailed, calibrated digital twins of key buildings to enable intelligent energy management. The solution integrated live operational data and is being developed into a live command centre with AI and machine learning to identify energy wastage and enable smart operational changes. While the project is ongoing, the Digital Twin has already proven valuable for effectively communicating energy spend to senior management.
