A Integrated Environmental Solutions Case Study
The University of Cumbria, through their project services partner GWP, faced the challenge of transforming an old industrial site into an eco-friendly student village. They needed to complete the first phase of 30 townhouses within a tight eight-month deadline while also adapting to a new, more stringent BREEAM 2011 assessment criteria. To educate the design team and manage this complex process, GWP deployed the IES TaP software from Integrated Environmental Solutions from the project's outset.
Using IES TaP, GWP was able to coordinate feedback from various specialists to quickly identify and solve a critical issue with the project's energy strategy. The solution involved implementing specific boilers that used waste heat, which reduced CO2 emissions to the required level. Integrated Environmental Solutions' tool was essential for keeping the project on target, enabling it to achieve a BREEAM Outstanding rating with a score of 86.12%, the first such rating under the new 2011 standards. The efficiency gains from IES TaP have also made the assessment process more profitable for GWP by saving time and allowing their assessors to take on more projects.
